Whole-leaf black tea smoked with pine wood. An earthy, spicy aroma with a strongly pleasant smoky flavor.

We offer a truly top level Lapsang. Giving off a strong, smoky, earthy flavor, Lapsang Souchong evokes outdoor campfires. Its warm flavor is a wonderful compliment to spicy and salty foods.

Lapsang Souchong is originally from the Mount Wuyi area in the Fujian province, and it is its production process which makes the tea truly unique. The tea leaves are withered over pine or cedar fires, pan-fried, rolled and then oxidized before being fully dried out in bamboo baskets set over burning pine. According to popular legend, an army during the Qing Dynasty camped out in a tea production site. Once they had finally left and the workers could return to preparing their tea, they needed to speed the drying time in order to get their tea to market. So they dried the leaves over pine-log fires, and found that the leaves kept the scent of the smoke. This new tea proved popular, and the Lapsang Souchong we know today was made.
