This tea has a rich history dating back to the Tang Dynasty.  Enshi is the location of origin, while Yu Lu means "Jade Dew," the same meaning as Gyokuro in Japanese.   This is a rare example of a Chinese tea made using the ancient steaming method, seldom seen in today's Chinese green tea varieties. It is this style that was originally made popular in Japan and led to the creation of what we know now as Sencha and Gyokuro teas.  Over the centuries, the steaming process nearly died out in China, but through experimentation was revived in the early 1900's. The resulting tea is much beloved today.

The flavor of Enshi Yu Lu is most reminiscent of a Japanese green tea, yet it retains a unique character all its own. These lovely dark green-blue needles yield a savory, fresh vegetal flavor with a hint of toasted sweetgrass and a velvety mouthfeel.
