Also known as Bai Hao, or white tips, Oriental Beauty is a singular and peculiar tea. It is one of the more heavily oxidized oolongs, giving it a unique appearance and flavor that falls somewhere between a dark oolong and a black tea. Small brown leaves with white tips (actually the plant’s natural defense against a certain pest) brew a reddish yellow tea. This aged batch from 2011 features slight cedar notes with a mildly sweet finish. Almost like a black tea, there is a light tannin taste. Brew at 200F and enjoy for 3-4 steepings.
